Personal Project: 2-D Game Design

For this project, I'm thinking of looking into game design, specifically 2-D style games (indie, role-playing, visual novel,etc.). Because 3-D games seem like a migraine just waiting to happen. I'm thinking of trying out a few programs which make these games simple to make, and the results of these programs are some of my favourite games of all time.

Game design doesn't necessarily mean designing character art, in fact that's usually a completely different job. Game designers instead develop the rules and gameplay mechanics, although recently more specific jobs have been created for more complex games, such as level designers, content designers, and UI (user interface) design. Of course, the goal of mine here is to make a short RPG (role-playing game)-style game, so I'll have to do all of it myself. It's fine. I've wanted to try this for myself for a while.

I'll see if there's any chance of me getting RPG Maker VX Ace. Apparently it's easy to use. Assuming I can get my parents' permission to use it on the family laptop, ANSWER ME BACK, DAD, the actual program is $69.99, so hopefully the 20-30 day free trial is long enough for me to make something decent.
...I'll see what I can do.

Unfortunately, most of the games that have inspired me are in the horror puzzle genre, so maybe I'll be nice and not go that route. Maybe. Luckily,  I'm not smart enough to learn the program and come up with some quick, effective, and unique horror story in 20-30 days. I'll wait until I'm not doing this for marks.
My dad got back to me. Wait for it...

HEYYY HE ACTUALLY SAID YES. PLOT TWIST.
I asked him just yesterday if I could use his laptop to play games and, justifiably yet to my disappointment, he said no.
So next time I should just tell him I'm playing games for school. I'm kidding. He wouldn't believe me I'd never lie to my parents.

WE ARE IN BUSINESS.
